Helena Katz – O ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO

“Numa costura de precisão e requinte, a Cia. Mimulus traz Por um Fio”

“Agora, não resta mais qualquer dúvida de que (a Mimulus) está inventando um futuro para a dança a dois.”

“O material coreográfico produzido é rico, requintado e dançado com muita precisão.”

“O duo de Jomar com Juliana Macedo, ao som de Chopin, tem a consistência daquele tipo de momento que ilumina caminhos e aponta para o que pode se desdobrar a partir do que já existe”.

Berkshire Eagle, USA

“…those in attendance seemed delighted by the images and determined energy on stage.”

“Mesquita’s dancers are agile and precise – often extraordinarily lithe throughout the body.”

“Mesquita, the resourceful artistic director and chief choreographer of Mimulus, aims to blend all this social dancing envied by the veritable wallflowers among us with modern-dance vocabulary, along with just a touch of balletic movement. And that synthesis, on view through Sunday afternoon in the Ted Shawn Theatre, often proves intriguing.”

Albany Times Union, USA – Tresca Weinstein

“Not a typical inspiration for dance, perhaps, but as translated into movement by Mimulus’ artistic director/choreographer Jomar Mesquita and his dancers, the result is sizzling, soulful and endlessly inventive.”

“The Brazilian troupe, which made its U.S. debut at the Pillow five years ago, was the perfect company to open the festival’s 80th anniversary season.”

“The nine gorgeous dancers and the piece itself embody much of what contemporary dance is about these days, including fusion, theatricality, the skillful use of props, and choreography that demands unbelievable technical proficiency.”

“ ‘Por Um Fio’ progresses like a ribbon of silk unfurling. The movement is gliding and sensual, yet never slick or glitzy, even when the men toss the women up onto their shoulders with a single easy movement, or when the women spin like tops or curve backwards to touch the floor like animated croquet hoops.”

“Partners, dressed in quilted and embroidered costumes, entwine and wrap around each other again and again, in a myriad of different ways. Strapping dancer Murilo Borges lifts and swings the petite Nayane Diniz as if she was feather light. In a repeated motif, the men guide the women not by their hips but by their heads and necks, using one or two hands—it’s a chilling and riveting image.”

“The fanciful set features nest- and foliage-like constructions hanging above, and light bulbs dangling from long wires to nearly touch the floor. At one point, as the stage darkens, they glimmer and flutter like fireflies among the dancers. If only Rosario—trapped, one imagines, in his own mind—could have seen the freedom and beauty his art has inspired.”
